Here is an image that I took today of the Pickens Fire Station that was hit by lightning Wednesday shortly after 3 P.M.

There was one person who saw the lightning hit the fire sirens (not visible) and then travel down the roof ridge to the communications antenna.

The lightning cut a propane gas line and alert folks quickly turned off the gas. It knocked the power meter out of the box and did considerable damage inside the building.

There is no cell phone service in Pickens and because it knocked out phone lines, power, and the fire station radio, other fire departments didn't know the status and there was more responding folks than necessary.
