National Weatherpersons Day
John Jeffries...one of America's first weather observers
Some are celebrating more than just the Super Bowl today.
February 5th is also the day to celebrate the men and women in
weather!
Today is National Weatherpersons Day!
It's a day to celebrate and recognize weather reporting
excellence.
The date was chosen to commemorate the birth of John
Jeffries...who was born on Feb. 5, 1744. Jeffries was one of
America's first weather observers.
He began taking daily weather observations in the city of Boston
in 1774, and he took the first balloon weather observation in
1784.
This celebration isn't just for those who work in the field of
meteorology. It's for anyone who is dedicated to the science.
This can include meteorologists at local National Weather Service
offices to storm spotters, amateur meteorologists and just weather
watchers.
